Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week – What a blessing! May God’s grace continue to find a home here in all of our hearts! God wills that grace flow freely here. I pray we receive it well. May this week provide an opportunity to help us all appreciate His goodness even more.
Two confessions that may not be readily apparent. First, CSW is a good deal of work. Several parents have put in a good deal of work, our teachers have too. Secondly Sister Mary Agnes has handled the administrative portion of CSW. (Experience has made me better at delegating, and CSW is hers. Thank you SMAgnes and the MANY who have contributed, especially the CSW committee.) I recall with great fondness a faculty meeting when we were debating the plausibility of some of the events planned for the week. People fell into two camps. One camp generally felt less is best, keep the school a place of learning, don’t get things far out of the norm. The other camp, best summarized by a spontaneous fervorino, that will be forever imbedded in my mind. It went something like this, “I love CSW, we only get one week all year long to really celebrate our school, let’s do some fun things, lots of them, get the kids excited. I love every minute of CSW, and anything I can do to help, I would be glad to do.”
Our actual choices of activities for CSW fall somewhere between the two camps, but I think considerably more on the latter, enjoyable end. We have events each day which shatter monotony (if it existed for some here), but keep some semblance of routine and order in the day, in the end. I hope you have found the week as enjoyable as we have. God wills that we enjoy His creation! Fr. Meconi, a retreat director of years gone by, asked a rhetorical question, “Do you view the earth as a playground or a penitentiary?” Lord, bless us with the gift of joy and help us lean into your playground!

Dress Code during Catholic Schools Week
A couple of days during Catholic Schools Week, jeans are permitted. Please, no jeans with rips or holes; no "stretch" jeans (those that resemble leggings.) Those who do not meet the dress code requirement will be asked to change into a school uniform.
Culture Corner
As we learn about different cultures, we are sometimes exposed to different religions as well. At St. Teresa School nothing will be taught to your students that is contrary to the Catholic faith or presented without a Catholic framework, and it will be done in a way that honors the goodness of families of various cultures. The Church has often emphasized the importance of dialogue: “Dialogue with other religions forms an integral part of Christian life; by exchange, study and work in common, this dialogue contributes to a better understanding of the religion of the other and to a growth of piety…The Church in dialogue listens and learns.” (from Faith and Inculturation, 11-12)
And from Nostra Aetate,2: "The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence those ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men."
Collapse of Parenting Snippet #18
So this isn’t from Collapse of Parenting, but it could be! There seems to be a trend among some older children to call their parents by their first name. Bad idea! Of the nine million people on earth, there are so very few who can call you “Mom” or “Dad”. Oh you blessed young people, use the title, please. If your children struggle with this, it is often a good idea for the opposite parent to have a good talk with the child to help them understand the blessedness of family life, and the sacredness of the roles in the family. - Sr. Mary Michael

Good Shepherd Scholarship Information

Please be on the lookout for a yellow paper coming home on FRIDAY that talks about our school fundraiser, Walk the Little Way. The paper will be due back to school on Wednesday, February 7th.
