Is it over yet? I even laugh as I write that, for we have barely even begun! I need Lent. In the short view, I’m not particularly fond of it, but in the long view, I am glad for Lent, as I need it—the Good Lord knows that. Maybe you need it, too, as He likely didn’t make it just for me. Our broken human nature belongs to each of us…as does HIS REDEMPTION. Here are my top three ideas for this Lent:
- Blessed Sacrament Beads – “Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, have mercy on us.” 33 times. In this year of the Eucharistic Revival, it seems a good remedy for the soul. One of the Sisters has prayed those beads daily after every meal for years. It’s about time I follow her good example.
- Do an act of charity daily – It makes our school or convent just a little better place to be.
- Turn up the Sacramental life – If we could see how grace pours into our souls, likely no one would have to tell us to turn up the Sacramental Life. Jesus promised to send grace there, and He is….Oh So Good to His Word. I can be more regular in confessions, more attentive at praying the divine office. If you can get to daily Mass, or Mass one more time in your week, there is likely nothing better any of us can do, unless it is getting to Sunday Mass.
- OK I said three so this one does not count, as it is not for me, but I see it as good for many of our kids. Limit screen time...take the next good step there, especially if it is keeping screens out of children’s rooms. Blessed Carlos Acutis limited himself to one hour of gaming a week. Our kids can do it too!
May the Good Lord guide us all to find the best practices we can do for Lent.
