Hunger
Hunger is a very human experience. We all encounter it at various times, some of which are more difficult than others. It is good to be honest with God when we're hungry. One time, after praying about the hunger I was experiencing, Jimmy John's showed up at the door offering free samples. That was one way God answered that prayer! However, usually it does not happen that way.
Jesus wants to satisfy our hunger with Himself: His Word and His Body. This is the most frequent way He reaches out in love in our moments of suffering. Being human, our hunger goes deeper than just physical need. We hunger deeply for love. Tell Jesus about this ache as well. He will fill it.
What happens when we do not go to God to fill our various hungers? We try to satisfy them ourselves, and it might not lead us in the right direction. I think of the prodigal Son, who "longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed..." (Luke 15:16) Then he came to his senses and realized that His Father was ready to give him all that he needed. Let us, too, go to our Father this Lent, and receive from Him the Love above all loves that will satisfy our hunger.
"Let them thank the Lord for his mercy; His wonders for the children of men. For He satisfies the thirsty soul, and the hungry He fills with good things." -Psalm 107:8-9
