Unprecedented Opportunity
Unprecedented opportunity. That is the phrase that appears to describe the opportunity for next year. Between the Good Shepherd Scholarship and the Opportunity Scholarships, we have some unique prospects before us.
- For those who qualify for the Good Shepherd Scholarship or any of the parish scholarships, apply through FACTS before March 15, please. Details are below.
- For those who qualify for the Opportunity Scholarship, there is no cost to apply. That is for those with a new student entering our school (K or 9th at Pius), even if you already have other children in our school.
- For those of you who may be getting irritated as “we miss both of those,” hang with me. The above will help us in many ways. Here are two ways that have the potential for good for you, too.
- The above scholarships will help some in our school. I’m hoping that through the scholarship program which builds one end of the scholarship tier, we can then bolster our scholarship tiers on the upper end and help those families in the future who just miss the tiered assistance. This may take a year or two and be dependent upon whether the Opportunity Scholarships stay around, but “good things come to those who wait.”
- The Opportunity Scholarship Contributions – Simply it works like this:
- You fill out the form with up to ½ of your state tax amount, you receive acknowledgement from the state and….
- Write a check to the school for that amount.
- Deduct the exact amount from your taxes (a tax credit, not just a deduction)
- Funding that normally goes to the state, would come to our families in need.
More detailed directions are available from the organizers of the programs at the links below. I believe strongly in the mission of our school. I’d much rather speak about formation than dollars, but the finances are a reality which is also essential. May the Good Lord bless us in every way, and that’s all of us!
