I stomped up the stairs to get my rosary, complaining interiorly as I went. Returning to the family circle in the living room, I spent the next twenty minutes in "agony" as we prayed the rosary together as a family, doing what I could to distract everyone from prayer.
Fast forward a few years. Turning my face to the window, I stubbornly chose not to join in on the rosary we prayed on the bus ride to the Pro Life March in D.C. Really? We did have over 20 hours on the bus, and the length of a rosary wouldn't take too much out of our time for socializing, right?
What is it that makes praying the rosary so hard? Possibly because it's so efficacious, the devil likes to do what he can to make it seem impossible, or at the very least, a burden. Like any step we take in our spiritual life, it takes commitment, determination and perseverance.
For all of you parents, for whom praying the rosary is particularly difficult with your family (or on your own), may the stories above be an encouragement to you--it's not the end of the story. Let's renew our dedication to praying the rosary this month. Better yet, let's get started and never give it up.
