"I have a feeling that this year something special is going to happen, other than snow, presents, Christmas trees and other things."
These were the words of a St. Teresa student, written in her Christmas card to me. Of all the things she wrote, this line stood out to me the most. What struck me above all, is that it is laden with hope!
Pope Francis has declared 2025 a Jubilee Year of Hope. Our faculty recently had a retreat, with conferences by Fr. Chris Stoley, an alumnus of our school and parish. As he witnessed to hope and encouraged us by his words, one way he described hope was, "something difficult, but possible to attain." Difficult, but possible. What comes to mind in your life that is difficult, but possible?
When you encounter something difficult, do you ever think, "It shouldn't be this way?" What if it's okay that it's hard? St. Paul reminds us that when we encounter these difficult things in our lives, and endure through them, our character is proven, and ultimately this leads to hope! (See Romans 5)
Let us keep hope in our hearts and be "pilgrims of hope" with one another this year.
Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. -Romans 5:5
