Encouragement
We all have times when we need a little more encouragement. Sometimes the smallest smile, kind word, gesture, note, conversation, surprise, or even a spontaneous burst of laughter can be a source of encouragement. As the faculty and staff of St. Teresa School, we received much encouragement from you, as parents and supporters of our school during Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you!
Yesterday we had a beautiful May Crowning. Notice in the picture above, the encouraging thumbs-up!
Today was another excellent example of receiving encouragement. Habemus Papam! We gathered the students in the gym to welcome our new Holy Father, and the atmosphere was electric! We prayed a rosary for him and then awaited the big announcement. The joy and anticipation were palpable. The students cheered and chanted, "We have a pope!" You would have thought we were in St. Peter's Square itself! Even the 8th grade, who were on their retreat, joined in with the whole Church as they were able, and, since Mass for them was later in the day, Fr. Kipper was able to insert our new Holy Father's name, Leo, in the Eucharistic Prayer.
May we go forth and be signs of encouragement for one another. Let us keep in mind some of the words of our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, "We are disciples of Christ. Christ goes before us, and the world needs His light."

CK Sisters Outdoor Spring Workday
Sat., May 10, 1:30-4:30 p.m. We will be planting our vegetable garden, cleaning up flower beds, mulching and cutting trees. Helpful items to bring include wheelbarrows, shovels, gloves, pruning/lopping shears, hoes, pickups and chainsaws. Children are also welcome! Mark your calendars now and contact Sister Mary Angela at sr.mary-angela@cdolinc.net if you would like to come and help. Please also print and complete a liability form (one per adult; children added to adult form.) Villa Regina Motherhouse, 4100 SW 56th St., about 2 miles west and south of Pioneers Park. (Walk-ins also welcome.)
For 8th grade--Message from Pius
Parents of 8th grade students, during the week of May 12th, please be looking for an email from Pius X High School regarding registration for your incoming freshman student. You will have until June 1, 2025 to let Pius X know of any changes which need to be made.

Measles?
There has been an influx of confirmed cases of measles across the country, and it is likely to arrive in Nebraska at some point. See the attached protocol regarding measles for your reference.
Pius Seniors
Do you have a son or daughter graduating from Pius this year? Alumni of St. Teresa School are invited to return to their elementary school and join us for 8:15 Mass on Friday, April 16th. Let us know if you're coming and sign up below! (There are also opportunities to participate in the Mass as readers, servers, etc.) After Mass there will be coffee, bagels and cream cheese in K-Hall! Looking forward to seeing you!
Gerbil Care over the Summer
If anyone is interested in adopting the gerbils over the summer, don't hesitate to sign up! If you have a family vacation planned, I know some families who could watch them for the time when you'll be gone.
We have 2 gerbils in the office (Linus and Cletus)! If you would like to help care for them over the weekends, please see sign-up below!

Summer Food Service Program
The Nebraska Summer Food Service Program provides free summer meals to kids and teens (ages 1 – 18) available at select locations. The meals help ensure children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is out for the summer. There are numerous open summer meal sites throughout the state of Nebraska.

Summer STEM Camps
I am excited to announce that I will be hosting STEM Camps for 5th-8th grade students this summer! There are two Chemistry camps (yes indeed, with real labs, real glassware, safe chemicals, and experiments!) and one "Water: Above, Below, and Within Us" camp in conjunction with 4+ research teams on UNL's East Campus.
Registration closes May 21 for Session 1, and June 18 for Session 2. Session 3 details and registration coming soon. Please forward this invitation to families and students who may be interested (5th-8th grade next school year). I'm excited to dive into chemistry with these students and encourage them in their creativity, analysis, technique, and love of investigation.
