Welcome back to another school year! We are off to a great start. While we are still in our first full day, I feel the children settling in. As a parent, have you ever gone into your children’s room at night and watched them sleep? Especially the really active children are so still and quiet when they sleep well. Today at about 9:30, I said to the office staff…listen! You could hear nothing but the silence. The children were all in their rooms doing what they should be doing, no one with a headache, skinned knee or nausea. All in their rooms taking in the newness, though I’m sure with varying degrees of enthusiasm, but in their rooms bonding with their teachers.
The busiest time for administrators is the week before school begins, getting ready for meetings and teachers and children…getting the classrooms and building ready for God’s little ones.
Speaking of the building, I hope you returning parents noticed our building renovation. The ceramic tile floor was new last summer, this year the lights, ceiling paint, walls along with chair rail and crown molding make the school truly worthy of the Father’s little ones. The beauty speaks to their dignity and the goodness of Catholic Education. For those of you who are new, we have two parts to our school, the 1926 building and the 1956 building; both got more than just a fresh coat of paint, as you can tell by the above. We have made the shift from being an old building to being a classical historical building. We are not done yet!
I pray you find our faculty to be as fine a group as I do. Now I’ve only been in administration for about 30 years, but NEVER have I worked with a finer group of educators. We all had a chance to bond further at the National ICLE conference here in Lincoln this summer. While optional, we were missing NO ONE among our faculty, and some of the non-teaching staff even joined in! A further sign of the commitment and unity with which we are blessed. May the Good Lord continue to bless our children this year. There will be highs and lows as in all chapters of life, but overall, may it be a year particularly blessed with joy, wonder and the goodness of the Lord here in His Church and School.
