With Catholic Schools Week on the horizon, there is much anticipation in the air. I look forward to a full week of opportunities for fun and gratitude for our Catholic School!
Sister Mary Michael is the "queen" of helping students enter appropriately into anticipation. We introduced the latest addition to the school, an almost life-sized knight in shining armor, on loan from a generous benefactor. It has taken its place in the 3rd grade, the students who study the medieval time period. Perhaps the 7th grade, who also study that time period, might be able to borrow it at some point, too. Sister introduced it with much dramatic effect, depicted in the pictures below. First getting the students to think about their time period, and what comes to mind, then bringing it in looking like a cadaver covered in a sheet, and finally the unveiling. (Remember a similar presentation with a new piece of artwork earlier this school year?)
These are great opportunities to add a little suspense and fun into the day.
Today's fun, in honor of the feast of St. Agnes was searching for 99 sheep around the school. Wasn't it actually 99 that were not lost? This time, it seems as though 99 were MIA, and it was my job to bring them back to the sheepfold...with a little help from the students. We're getting close--I think our count is 95. Maybe a few more will be discovered tomorrow.
Anticipation can be related to hope. May the Lord fill your hearts with anticipation of the good things to come, while also recognizing His presence in the moment at hand.
Sister Mary Agnes, C.K.
