The Lord has great things going here at St. Teresa School. The program here is so much bigger than any one of us. All of us working together with the Lord in the lead, there is so much goodness going on. CSW gives a moment to step back and thank the Lord and continue to grow the blessings. My grade school did a fine job at the time and place we were, but when I compare it to what goes on here on a daily basis, I have to get out a much longer measuring stick, as education here goes so far beyond. Most of the differences come from the curriculum shift we made several years ago. The search for knowledge and wonder, along with placing before the children exceptional literature, poetry, music and art all result in a daily richness that is becoming the new norm. This week I’ve been stepping back and seeing anew. When I was little, I wanted very much to learn to play the piano. We had a little house, though at the time I didn’t think of it as small, and I had three brothers. I recall my dad saying, if you find a good place in this house for a piano, we will get one. I had all kinds of ideas, all of them lacking, so instead I learned to “play the sewing machine.” That, too, is a good skill, but playing music was something I missed. I could go on and on about the musical offerings here, and the art offerings and the literature being taught, and the math projects, and the pacer and so many other things. All of it comes together in and for your children.
On Monday the Pius choirs came. Their selections and performance could not have been better. They reflected a culture of richness in their performance that was compelling. Yesterday our tribute to the Armed Forces was exceptional. A career military friend of mine, Mike Smith, came from Des Moines to help the children see how deeply imbedded faith is in the military from General Washington’s institution of the chaplaincy to the present.
Today we had the Quiz Bowl, followed up by our Eucharistic Procession. Thank you to you as parents who send your kids to us, and for the many little treats this week. Catholic Schools Week is one of the weeks kids sometimes cry when they are sick, as they want to come to school!
Also, kudos to Sister Mary Agnes and Laura Minchow who show up to take pictures so often and so well. I trust Sister Mary Agnes will plug in a few pictures.
Lord we are so blessed, thank you, and make us more and more grateful.
Sister Mary Michael, C.K.
