The Brotherhood (and Sisterhood) of Saints
What does a saint look like? It's hard to tell--saints come in as many forms as there are people! While you can't necessarily tell a saint simply by what's on the outside, there are those times when you've been in someone's presence and knew they were a saint. St. John Paul II was one of those people for me. At World Youth Day in Toronto, Canada, even in the midst of a crowd of 1,000,000 people, I got the sense that he was talking just to me. I've heard others reflect on that gift of his as well.
There are certain external things we can observe in people that show us indications of sanctity--virtues practiced, overcoming difficulties with heroism, fruits of the Holy Spirit...the Church gives us many ways to grow in holiness. And of course, we look to the saints to show us how it's done on a day-to-day level.
So, while we might not all look like Sts. Louis, Zelie and Therese, as you'll see in the photos featured in this newsletter, saints do show us the way. Let's call on them as our brothers and sisters, rooting for us, and strengthening us, filling us with hope.

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me.

Cross Country
Cross country season is completed. After three meets our boys won the diocesan competition! Well done. Our league encourages participation by any young people interested in a sport. We had four boys in the top ten at one of the three meets. Thanks to all who participated, and to our coaches. We wouldn't have teams without both coaches and students who are interested. Sports can be a great way to develop camaraderie, resilience and virtue.
MathCounts
St. Teresa MathCounts will start up again in October for any 6th-8th grade students who want to participate. MathCounts is a national math enrichment program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement. More information can be found on their website: www.mathcounts.org.We will meet at St. Teresa School on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. The first practice will be October 14. The season runs through mid-February, when the students compete in a competition against other schools in the area.

CK Sisters Outdoor Fall Workday
Saturday, October 17, 1:30-4:30 pm
We will be planting shrubs, cleaning up our vegetable garden and cutting trees. Helpful items to bring include shovels, work gloves, wheelbarrows, pickups and chainsaws. Children are also welcome – and can use this for service hours! Mark your calendars now and contact Sister Mary Angela at sr.mary-angela@cdolinc.net if you would like to come and help. Please also print and complete a LIABILITY FORM (one per adult; children added to adult form.) Villa Regina Motherhouse, 4100 SW 56th St., about 2 miles west and south of Pioneers Park. Walk-ins are also welcome.
