There is something about stars that draws me. Maybe it is from growing up out in the country and having greater visible access to the firmament. (In fact, on my home visit each year, I experience once again the breathtaking view of the stars that I remember from my childhood!) Currently in 5th grade we're reading, "Carry On, Mr. Bowditch," about Nathaniel Bowditch, who lived in the 1700's and made great advances in nautical navigation using mathematics and the objects in the heavens. At one point in the book, Nat's mother takes him outside and shares the following with him: "I made up a sort of saying for myself, Nat.
I will lift up my eyes unto the stars. Sometimes, if you look at the stars long enough, it helps. It shrinks your day-by-day troubles down to size." For those of us who cannot raise our eyes to the mountains, as in Psalm 121, the stars are another option.
Here in Lincoln, we can see some stars, but outside of Lincoln, at our Motherhouse, while still experiencing the effects of light pollution, we can see a few more.
We cordially invite you to our Motherhouse for our next SFA gathering on Tuesday, November 10th, starting at 7 p.m. We hope you join us for fellowship, stargazing, s'mores, and enjoying an evening opportunity to "shrink our day-by-day problems down to size."
